This is a delicious homemade strawberry yogurt smoothie. My kids love the strawberry yogurt from the stores and I always cringe when they ask me to buy it. When I read the label and see the additives, sugars, unfamiliar ingredients, and bioengineered ingredients, it just makes me sad. So, I made a deal with them. I will make them a strawberry smoothie instead! Check out our peach and yogurt smoothie, too!

Breakfast doesn’t have to be a burden. I try not to offer milk with sugary cereal in the morning. Rather, I try to offer something healthy such as eggs, oatmeal, and smoothies. Here are some other ideas for a healthy easy breakfast:

Ingredients for Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie

Our strawberry yogurt smoothie is made from 2 ingredients: real strawberries and homemade yogurt (recipe for homemade yogurt). If you haven’t done yogurt yourself before, give it a try. It is super easy and you don’t need any equipment. When I make the smoothie for my kids, I add raw honey as a sweetener since they like it more that way. As you can see, that is a pretty simple strawberry yogurt smoothie with simple 3 known ingredients. No chemicals, no additives, no bioengineering, nothing. Just simple delicious strawberries with yogurt and honey!

Fresh Strawberries

Strawberries are antioxidant heaven. They are also rich in Vitamin C, fiber, magnesium, and polyphenols. This fruit is worth adding to your daily diet. Strawberries are especially helpful in protecting you from cancer, diabetes, and heart problems to name a few.

Yogurt

The strawberry yogurt smoothie is very nutrient-rich. With an ear infection going around so often now, I give my little buddy this yogurt smoothie 30 to 40 minutes after his antibiotic dosage to replenish his good gut bacteria. It is super important to keep his tummy healthy after the antibiotic kills everything in his tummy.

In addition to the yogurt’s probiotics, the strawberry yogurt smoothie is high in protein, calcium, Vitamins B, and D, probiotics, live cultures, magnesium, phosphorus, iodine, zinc, and potassium. Yogurt nutrients are so many that we dedicated an article just explaining what they are and how they help us thrive. Read more about the yogurt nutrients and their benefits. We also wrote an article about how those nutrients strengthen our bodies. Learn more about how yogurt can benefit your health.

Raw Honey

Although raw honey is optional in this recipe, adding it to your smoothie can bring nutrients too. We use raw, unfiltered, organic honey. I usually buy a big can from the store and then use glass jars to store it. Read the label and if you see pasteurized or processed honey, just skip it. Many nutrients of this type of honey are removed to increase the shelf life of the honey. A funny fact about honey – I read somewhere that honey can stay good for over 3000 years!

So what exactly honey is rich in? Honey has amino acids, vitamins, minerals, iron, zinc, and antioxidants. It is used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial agent. When I was growing up, we were told to eat one small teaspoon of honey every morning to help with our throat health. Have you seen Steve Ballmer eating honey on stage while talking? Now you know why! Honey will help your throat.

Equipment for Strawberry and Yogurt Smoothie

  • Blender – We use a blender to make this smoothie. There are many types of blenders you can use (see below). I often use the personal blender since the smoothie is ready in a cup to drink or the Oster blender.
  • Vegetable brush – You can use a vegetable brush for the strawberries in this recipe. Since the strawberries are gentle, I opted not to use the brush on them. If possible, you can try buying organic strawberries.

Notes

  • You don’t necessarily have to cut up the strawberries in the blender. We do that to avoid bumps in the smoothie.
  • We opted not to use a brush to clean the strawberries since they are delicate. However, feel free to brush the strawberries if you want them to be extra clean.
  • We love using homemade yogurt. Here is the recipe on how to make it.
  • We add raw honey to this recipe as a sweetener. I found my kids like the smoothie more when I add honey to it. The honey is optional in this recipe, so we do not include it as part of the nutritional facts for this recipe. Also, honey is not keto-friendly so if you are on a keto, you may want to substitute honey with some other sweetener if you find the smoothie not sweet enough.
