Lactose intolerant individuals
Lactose Intolerance – yogurt contains milk sugar called lactose.
Lactose-intolerant individuals might have side effects when consuming yogurt. Yogurt tolerance among lactose-intolerant individuals is mainly because yogurt contains less lactose than milk, delays gastric emptying, and contains lactic acid bacteria. The lactic acid bacteria must be live and present in sufficient quantities (108 bacteria/ml) to be of benefit. By consuming yogurt, lactose-intolerant individuals can benefit from getting the needed calcium requirements. Calcium deficiency leads to osteoporosis. It is also suggested to consume smaller portion of yogurt so there is enough lactase available in the intestine to digest the lactose.
Diabetes
There is some amount sugar found in milk. Depending on how yogurt is made, there could be additional sugar added to the store bought yogurt. Hence, individuals who have diabetes should be careful of the amount of yogurt they consume. If you follow our homemade yogurt recipe, you can successfully eliminate all those unnecessary added sugars in your yogurt.
Milk Allergy
Milk allergy is triggered by the milk proteins whey and casein. Since those proteins are present in yogurt, individuals who have milk allergy might have a reaction to the yogurt.
Overweight/Obese
Yogurt is a high density nutrient food and is recommended that people regularly consume it for all the benefits it has to the human health. However, if you are overweight or obese you need to watch for the calorie’s intake and consume it in moderation.
