Feel and Look Your Best Even While Self-Isolating

Thank you to our guest post blogger Cheryl Conklin from to contributing to our blog with the below article.

Staying indoors for long periods of time can be tough on some people, even those who are self-proclaimed introverts. However, it is not always possible to go outside or even socialize directly with friends and family. If you find it difficult to stay at home but are unable to go out, you might start feeling depressed. This may lead to feeling down about your physical appearance as well as your emotional well-being.

be Healthy be Happy wants you to, well, be healthy and happy! Because of that, we’re offering the following easy tricks to help.

Aromatherapy is a homeopathic approach to wellness. While some people may remain skeptical, even well-known institutions like Johns Hopkins have examined the efficacy of essential oils and aromatherapy. Essential oils affect each individual differently, but some people find them useful for treating nausea, anxiety and stress. Some commonly used oils and their uses include:

  • Lavender for relaxation and stress relief
  • Lemon for boosting mood and adding to cleaning products
  • Melaleuca, or tea tree oil, for treating acne and, in some cases, bug bites
  • Peppermint for relieving headaches

It can be difficult to get motivated to start exercising if you do not already have a regular routine. The first step is to find what motivates you and use that. Exercise helps release chemicals in your brain, such as serotonin, that boost your mood, so it is one of the easiest ways to start feeling better mentally, and it improves your body physically at the same time.

If your goal is to lose weight, it can help to invest in a smartwatch or other fitness tracker. There are a lot of different smartwatches on the market, and they can do everything from counting your steps and calories burned to track if you fall and making phone calls. If you require more of a personal touch, consider getting help from a health and wellness coach.

What you eat is a cornerstone of how you feel, and without balanced nutrition, your mental well-being and metabolism can suffer. If you hate to cook or configuring a diet that works for you seems impossible, there are healthy and convenient subscription plans that are designed to meet your needs.

Noise Diet

As explained by Plymouth Ear, Nose and Throat, a noise diet is reducing the amount of noise you subject your ears to each day. Whether you use earbuds or just have the TV volume up really loud, noise takes its toll on your ears and mental health. By turning down the volume and even unplugging from your headphones for a while, you may notice your body relaxing more.

There are studies that suggest a massage coupled with aromatherapy could have psychological and immunological benefits. Massage therapy can be beneficial for people who suffer from chronic pain, but it is likely to be most effective when performed by a professional. How often you get a massage depends on your needs, but regular appointments may be useful if a massage helps you feel better. The good news is that some massage therapists can come to your home, so you do not necessarily need to go out to enjoy these benefits.

While they say you should never judge a book by its cover, ScienceDirect notes how we dress can directly influence your psychological processes. This means the simple act of getting dressed for the day has the potential to make you more productive and boost your sense of wellness. If you have been at home for a while or if you work from home, you could be in the habit of staying in your pajamas throughout the day. While this may be comfortable, getting dressed could actually make it easier to get things done.

Just because you are at home more often does not mean you have to settle for lower self-esteem. Everyone needs a pick-me-up on occasion. If you have fallen into a rut and need a boost to be happy once again, try something new, such as aromatherapy, exercise, better nutrition, a noise diet, a massage, or changing your clothing. A little self-confidence goes a long way towards a more balanced life.
